Trade in your chicken for Trader Joe's surimi

Nothing hits better in the very early morning, (pre or mid workout) than a quick protein snack hit. Our "go-to" for the last year or more has been Foster Farms chicken breast strips dipped into Trader Joe's tzatziki. It may sound odd, but don't knock it until you try it!

This past month we have discovered TJ's new imitation crab meat (surimi) and gave it a try. The plan was to use it as a salad topper or in a fresh spring roll.

We've always liked surimi well enough, but most brands have added ingredients that give us pause such as carrageenan. But Trader Joe's version has none of these red flag ingredients AND the chunk/texture appearance is also superior to other brands we've tried. We like. Take a look at the ingredients in our image.

Our next thought was how these pollock chunks would taste with the tzatziki? YUM. Since this was clearly going to be a repeat buy, dove into the nutrition. Surimi stacks up very well against the Foster Farms Chicken.  Take a look below (via Perplexity AI) at the comparison. Downside to both products is their processing. Side note, we had to explain to Perplexity that our surimi did not have the controversial ingredients as many others do. This fact alone changed the output in terms of a recommendation.

There is a slight difference with the serving size, but it's pretty negligible. We like the lower cholesterol, less sugar and less sodium. We are making a switch! Tell us what you think of imitation crab (krab).
