Yes, that's right. The Bavarian city of Munich may be landlocked from salt water waves, but believe it or not there is a challenging surf spot for local boarders.
Munich's largest park, the English Garden, has a strong water flow and eddy at its southern border along Prinzregentenstrabe and surfers drop into the flow and try to ride the curl.
Technically, it's illegal to surf here, but like many things in Germany, the police and people don't enforce the rules. That's good news for athletic-minded travelers who like to Hang Ten--although don't plan on that here. Short boards were used by all and most participants struggled to stay on their boards for more than ten seconds.
