Never too old, never too bad, never too late to do an IRONMAN!

I've played with Bikram's famous quote in the title. It really reads:
"Never too old, never too sick, never too bad, never too late to start from scratch and begin again."
- Bikram Choudhury
This AARP member is certainly not over ANY hill!

But that is just what I was thinking when I saw a blurb in the Wall Street Journal today heralding the 30 triathletes over the age of 70 who will compete in the Iron Man World Championship race in Kailua-Kona on October 10th, 2009.

Did you get that? OVER the AGE of 70!!! These men and women will strive to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and then run a full marathon -- 26.2 miles. We've posted before about super-star seniors and I just love being reminded once again that staying active and healthy has the reward of longevity. Just click through to read the evidence.

Cool!

I beg to differ on the Baby

I beg to differ on the Baby Boomer notion of golf and bridge. I have a racing age of 54 and still race bicycles (USCF Cat 3) and do triathlons, including half ironmans. There are lots of phenomenal athletes in the over 50 crowd. Friend of mine - my age - just completed a half ironman in just a smidge under 5 hours.

Yes, and i predict that

Yes, and i predict that Generation X and generations thereafter will have more and more 70+ year olds performing amazing athletic feats. Baby Boomers spend their retirement playing golf and Bridge -- Gen X'ers and Y'ers will be climbing mountains, swimming channels and conquering Kona!
