Kombucha Recall? Sort of.

Not too long ago, we blogged on Kombucha and its unique health benefits.  Recently several of our die-hard Kombucha drinkers were aghast; Whole Foods had pulled GT's & Synergy's Kombucha beverages from store shelves.  (Both are manufactured by Millennium Products.)

Why?  There is a concern that the drink may be delivering a little too much of "the good stuff."  Millennium is investigating reports of elevated alcohol levels in the bubbly refreshment. How much alcohol?  Well, anything over the .5% must be classified as beer, wine or spirits.  And the media gossip chain has suggested that some bottles may have 2 to 3% alcohol content!

What is the deal now?  It's not yet clear.  It has been over 2 weeks since Whole Foods first began pulling the product from shelves.  Other stores have followed suit, and other brands of kombucha are also being removed.  Celestial Seasons and Honest Tea both have recalled their raw kombucha products.

If you are someone who stockpiles the elixir when there is a sale, this could be an opportunity...Forget lemonade stand.  How about a Kombucha Stand!
