About two years have passed since a member of our editorial staff last visited Kansas City, MO. After a 2-day trip this week, we're happy to report that most of our content is still accurate. Here are a few highlights:
1) The Marriott Downtown Kansas City (next to the convention center) replaced much of its cardio equipment with new bikes, treads, ellipticals, etc. creating one of the best hotel gyms in the city.
2) The Westin and Hyatt Crown Center continue to operate as the two most popular hotels in the city and both offer useful and busy fitness centers.
3) Despite (1) and (2) above, we continue to strongly recommend staying in the Country Club Plaza area of the city (about three miles south of downtown) where various hotels line the streets beside upscale department stores, boutique shops, delicious restaurants and fun-filled bars.
4) In April 2006, Marriott completed renovations to an historic, 19th century apartment building adding a new Courtyard hotel to the lively Country Club Plaza travel scene. Its small but well-stocked gym and smokefree policy will garner an AMT recommendation.
5) Intercontinental (formerly Loews) took over management of the most luxurious hotel in Country Club Plaza and is in the process of renovating the entire building; improvement completion is slated for 2008. Hopefully, the gym is on the revamp plans too.
6) In addition to Kansas City proper, we also toured and researched Overland Park, KS, and will be adding our findings to AMT.com. As part of our content expansion plans, we're making a concerted effort to now include popular business destinations that may exist on the fringe of a city-like Overland Park, Schaumburg, IL, etc.
7) It's always nice to come home to San Diego.
Continued Safe and Sweaty Travels!!
