Whew! Finding healthy and athletic-minded travel options in Silicon Valley is easy--especially now considering we've made all of our recommendations free and open to the web-crawling public. This complimentary offering follows our plan to keep approximately 10% of the AMT cities as "Free Tours". (Side note: As we watch many other web properties contemplate switching from a 100% free, ad-driven model, to a subscription or "freemium" based set up with hopes to generate profits, we're patting ourselves on the back for making the right decision three years ago.)
Approximately one month ago, we toured 70+ Silicon Valley hotels, 20+ health clubs, various lap pools, community centers, run routes and more. Also, we sampled some of the area's cuisine and visited a few tourist attractions. As a result, we can confidently share our findings.
For example, hotels such as the Cypress in Cupertino, the Marriott in Santa Clara, the Four Seasons in Palo Alto, and the Doubletree near the airport, really impressed us with fantastic hotel gyms, comfortable rooms and healthy lifestyle amenities.
Silicon Valley swimmers will have no problems finding an appealing water box--we discovered high quality pools such as Rinconada, the Sunnyvale Swim Complex/Fremont High, DeAnza College, the El Camino YMCA, and the Haines International Swim Center.
Club One and 24 Hour Fitness dominate the health club market, but upstarts such as Form Fitness and Equinox boast solid representatives as well. For a high end health club experience, Decathlon Club takes the "Gold".
Outdoor activity options abound with fabulous routes/venues such as the Dish Run, Baylands Preserve, Guadalupe River Trail, Rancho San Antonio Park, Coyote Point Park and a whole lot more.
And after all of your activity, we've highlighted some tasty and healthy eating establishments as well-- from salad lovers to Cambodian to trendy. We've got you covered.
We've even identified a Silicon Valley bike rental outfit that will bring a two-wheel ride straight to your hotel room!
Suffice to say, you no longer have any excuse to NOT maintain your healthy and active lifestyle if traveling to Milpitas, San Jose, Palo Alto and all of the other South Bay towns in between.
