We don't have a dog. I grew up with cats as the family pet--Siamese cats. But we don't have any cats now. Both unexpectedly died just before our daughter was conceived...
Anyway, for some reason, this tidbit from today's WSJ caught my attention: "Metro areas with the most outdoor space per capita set aside for man's best friend"
-
Portland, Oregon wins with 31 dog parks
San Francisco has 27
Tampa, FL has only 7 but with a population of approx 322,000 this is 2.2 parks per 100k residents
Seattle boasts 11 pooch partial places
Colorado Springs comes in with 7 pleasure playgrounds for the tail-waggers
and last on this list is Albuquerque, New Mexico also with 7 pet parks.
Portland seems to leave the other cities in the dust...maybe it's all those lovely pine trees? Or the fact that Oregonians just tend to be very outdoorsy.
There's no doubt that the travel industry also caters to canine tastes with special dog friendly services. Many of the Athletic-Minded Hotels we recommend have pet perks!
